Pretty yummy looking, huh? Don’t be fooled. Those strawberries don’t hold a candle to the grapefruit. Well, that is not entirely true. Sprinkled with a little sugar those strawberries are like candy!
Give me blackberries and I have to make a cobbler. Give me blueberries and I’m diving head first into a plate of pancakes. Give me grapefruit and I’m happy as a clam!
What is your favorite fruit?

After M and I got home from the doctor’s office, I decided to stay put. Even if I drove into work, I’d be scared stiff (literally) trying to drive home on possilbly icy roads. Better safe than sorry.
What is it about an ice day and wanting to eat everything in the kitchen? I can’t stop eating everything in sight!!

It’s 8:15AM and I’m still debating on whether or not to make the drive up to Plano. I don’t want to get STUCK at the office. I have to have some blood work done a little later this morning. I will make my decision after that. I just hate the idea of trying to drive home on an ice rink aka the tollway.
Normally, I would be filled with joy at the possibility of an ice day, but not today. I have so much work to do. Being out for part of last week plus time off this week is really putting a damper on production. Grr…
Not to mention, work means that I work out. I have a gym less than ten feet from my desk. I have no treadmill at home nor workout DVDs. Obviously, the weather outside is not condusive for running. The idea of breaking my neck on a slick spot is not all that appealing. What’s a girl to do?
Updates to come later. How is everyone else handling today’s weather?

For fun. Here is our sweet boy.

World Market is having a clearance sale this weekend. I found a few items that I didn’t need, but had to have. Take a look.

I had my coffee in this 99 cent mug. Cute, huh? Too bad the coffee sucked! I branched out from my Almond Joy coffee and tried the Snickernut. Yuck! No Snickers taste, just blah. I can’t believe I spent close to $13 on a bag of bitter beans.
This is what M calls tacky, but I like it!

Last, but not least. I HAD to purchase some wine. This is one of my favorites. I normally buy it at Monticello (support the locals), but this was convenient. I got some Bordeaux glasses as well.

M and I enjoyed the vino and a good fight on HBO; Mosley vs. Margarito. Mosley opened up a can of whoop ass on Margarito. Dang!! That was some fight!

Note: I wrote this post yesterday, but for some reason saved it as a draft. Um, well…here it is now.
I’ve been sick with the flu since Tuesday. I still feel like crap, but I must mention that last night’s drenching was not as bad as previous nights. It seems to me that I’m on the road to recovery.
I must take the time to thank a few helpers along the way. Thank you Sonic! Your cherry limeade did the body good. Thank you Central Market for making homestyle chicken noodle soup. I was too tired and ill to make my own. Don’t kill me, but I added Tabasco. Thank you red wine. You helped me sleep through the night. Thank y0u Ricola for cough drops that don’t reek of Vics Vapor Rub, but still do the job. Thank you Tylenol, Advil and 4-way for getting me through every waking moment. I can’t wait to enjoy next weekend. I plan to use this one to rest and get well.
Guess who came home sick from work today? You guessed it. M. I started him on Tamiflu. He’s been asleep on the sofa for over 4 hours now. Uh oh! Calling Nurse McDaniel!
Men handle illness much differently than women. I must mention this one tiny thing that really got me peeved! When M got home today my fever decided to break. I was drenched in sweat and trying my best to lay as still as possible in the bed. I wanted to fall asleep and forget about the flu. M had something different in mind. He wanted to know why I wasn’t getting up to take care of him. Really? I did what any loving wife would do. I gave him a Tamiflu (got a prescription for him when I was at the doctor) and then a big old Tylenol Cold and Flu P.M. Yes, I knocked my hubby out cold. It’s been a peaceful afternoon ever since.
Now, what to have for dinner??? I think Yumi to Go will be getting a call tonight. Did I mention bef

Doctor’s orders. I’m to drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest over the next several days. I knew I was sick, but geez! Somehow the night sweats, achy body, cough and fever weren’t enough to keep me from going to work or even to stop me from working out. I tend to deny the severity of illness especially when I’m the one being attacked. 6 miles a day on the treadmill and an hour on the elliptical is nothing when you are suffering from the flu. No pain, no gain. I’m such a nerd!!
Now, I’m home from work for the rest of the week. First stop after the doctor’s office was none other than Braum’s. I needed a limeade fix in a major way! Lots of fluids, right? Since then, I’ve had a lemon lime G2, 2 large iced coffees, 2 Yogi Cough teas, one 7-Up and a Lipton’s cup of chicken noodle soup. I’m so full of liquid it’s not even funny. I’ll do anything to be better by the weekend.
Any tips to get over this whole flu thing quickly? I’m desperate!

I lasted 21 days on my resolution for the New Year. No drinking during the work week.
That all changed today. Sitting at my desk this afternoon, I knew exactly what I needed when I got home from work….red wine! I’m tired, sick, somewhat over worked and the extra long commute has me less than thrilled with our new office location.Did I mention that I’m now getting up at 4:30AM? Red wine, will you bring the thrill back into my life?
Oh yes! I sit here with a lovely glass of red wine, this morning’s paper spread out before me and ESPN’s Sports Center playing in the background (Thanks, Honey!). Now on to important things like more red wine and Jarlsberg.
Cheers everyone!

I have to share this recipe with everyone. For those of you that have ventured over to Chocolate Angel, you know this salad all too well. This dish has made an appearance at Thanksgiving for over 25 years and for good reason. It’s delicious! Try it at home.
Crust
2 cups pretzels (crushed in food processor)
1 cup butter, melted
¼ cup sugar
Combine and press into 9×13 inch casserole dish. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Let cool.
Filling
3 cups water
1 lg. pkg. strawberry Jell-O
1 sm. pkg. small strawberry Jell-O
2 cups fresh sliced strawberries or 1 pkg. frozen strawberries (thawed and drained)
Bring 3 cups of water to boil. Mix in Jell-O. Pour on top of crust and refrigerate for about 1 hour. Add strawberries to cover Jell-O and refrigerate again for another hour.
Topping
8 oz. cream cheese (softened)
1 lg. carton Cool Whip
½ cup chopped pecans
Mix cream cheese and Cool Whip. Spread over strawberry/Jell-O mixture. Sprinkle with chopped pecans and refrigerate again until ready to serve.
Enjoy!

Yesterday, my office packed up to move to our new location in Plano. Boo! I’m not looking forward to the drive. At least construction on the tollway has ceased. I have no plans to show up at the new location over the long weekend to unpack (need rest and relaxation). I’ll tackle that early Tuesday morning. Talk about a cluster f***!
Lunch consisted of another salad. I love my salads. What do I love more than salads? Iced coffee! I’ve turned into a complete junkie!

I left the office early and headed over to Central Market. If you follow my post, you know that I LOVE grapefruit. Take a look at these beauties! I bought more than the bowl could hold. They are rolling all over my counter space. Pure entertainment for Carlos!

Dinner consisted of blueberry pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. This was ultimate comfort food for us! I followed the standard Joy of Cooking recipe for pancakes, but added an extra tsp. of sugar and 1/2 tsp. of baking soda. They turned out beautifully!
Since the new year, we have stopped drinking during the work week (call us crazy). Last night, we enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine recommended by Monticello Liqours; Enzo Di Sette Rue Primitivo. The bottle didn’t last long. M and I took down the whole thing and then some while watching Evil.
Evil is a Swedish film about a young man that is expelled from high school and sent to a prestigious academy. Threats and bullying take center stage as this teenager looks to overcome his own rage and agression within.

Happy Friday everyone! Are you ready for the weekend? M and I have been dying for it to get here all week. Not only do we want to make another trip to Chocolate Angel for their Coca Cola Chocolate Cake, but we also want to try their pies. Speaking of pies. We are heading back to Louie’s on Saturday for another awesome pizza night. Since we have a three day weekend ahead, we’re in store for more movies, restaurants and culinary creations. Whoo hoo!

Breakfast consisted of mixed fruit and an Activa yogurt. Of course, I had to have my funky egg beater and tofu concoction. It’s total comfort food to me. Healthy too!

Breakfast would not be complete without coffee. Below is a snap of the best coffee in the world; Almond Joy with lots of cream! Notice the little specks? I like to add a little Allspice to my java for an extra kick. Yum!

So, what do you eat for breakfast? Are you fairly healthy? Once a week I like to splurge and dive head first into a chocolate croissant. Mmm… chocolate!!
Take a look at yesterday’s salad creation. Yummy, huh? It’s a good thing our work cafeteria has a nice salad bar. Otherwise, I’d have to venture off campus for lunch.

I have a recipe to post either later today after work or tomorrow. It’s the strawberry pretzel salad; a Thanksgiving staple for over 25 years.
Is anyone else off for a three day weekend?
